The Australian Securities and Investments Commission found that 44% of all small businesses suffered from “poor strategic management”. That’s an alarming number of businesses that are teetering on the edge of losses and potential closure.
The majority of this is because new business owners become focused on ideas of what they want and rarely create clear and compelling visions on how to achieve them.
Now don’t get me wrong, I love a good dream, but businesses shouldn’t be dreams for long. Turn them into action plans and business visions.
What is a business vision?
The entire concept of a business vision can be best thought of as a compass that helps guide you through your daily challenges and keeps your business’s progress on track.
Creating a business vision to achieve your goals and dreams is like mapping out a path to the best business and life you could possibly imagine. You need to know by having a business vision that your sense of satisfaction and personal happiness are well within your reach.
Basically, how can you expect to get to where you want to be in business if you don’t know what you are working towards?
How to Create Your Business Vision
Clear and well-defined visions for your business do not appear overnight.
My favourite way to create a business vision that you love is to break down your ideal business, the one you have always envisioned, into specific components. You need to know exactly what you want out of business. Ask yourself some questions that are thought-provoking and consider every aspect of your business, both tangible and intangible.
Think about the areas of your business and how it will affect things like family, friends, wealth, success, health, and happiness, as well as things like fun, personal growth and spirituality.
It is extremely helpful to write down your vision and have it on your desk to help make sales and major business relationship decisions. Keeping a journal where you reflect on exactly what you want out of life and the small steps you need to take every day to achieve that life is extremely beneficial.
Also, focus on how you want your business to feel because if your business only looks good from the outside but doesn’t feel good in your heart then it isn’t in line with your values and ultimately will not bring you joy.
Set aside any preconceived notions about what your business needs to look like or should be like and instead, realise that this is your chance to turn your dream into a fulfilling reality.
Creating business visions with clients is one of my specialities. Taking an idea and guiding you through it to real-life results is one of the most satisfying parts of my job so let me help you create a strong business vision. It’s easier than you think.
